Well, first things first –
✨ Congratulations! ✨
Secondly, good luck with the general planning of it all.
We have so many wonderful venues nearby, and I’ll be introducing you to a few of my favourite ones that are within roughly 10 miles of our lovely town. Here we are, on the edge of Dartmoor, with incredible views everywhere and so much gorgeous scenery – and what a lovely little range of venues nearby!
Whether you’re after a rustic barn wedding, country manor home or an outdoorsy place, there’s something for you. And as a wedding photographer, I’ve fortunately had the absolute pleasure of visiting these venues to document beautiful weddings.
~ I also have a lovely list of local-ish wedding suppliers – have a looksie for if you need a local florist, hair stylist, make up artist, videographer etc 👀 ~
Anyway. Back to some lovely venues!

Wonwood Barton
Wonwood Barton one of my favourite and most-visited wedding venues.
It is a stunning countryside wedding venue located just 5 miles out of our lovely Tavistock – just past Lamerton. It’s an old farmstead and is so charming. Wonwood offers a gorgeous outside ceremony area (and indoor backups), plenty of outdoor space – with room for a marquee! – and a few lovely brick stable-like buildings surrounding a courtyard.
There is some accommodation on site, and everything is DIY so you can completely customise your wedding day.

The Horn of Plenty
The Horn of Plenty is a gorgeous Georgian Country House in Gulworthy, only 3 miles from Tavistock. It sits on beautiful grounds with a view of the Tamar Valley, and is the venue for so many stunning weddings.
Both indoor and outdoor ceremonies are an option, and their food is amazing, and their wedding team and staff are all wonderful. I haven’t yet done an outdoor ceremony here (thanks, rain!) but the indoor ones are lovely nonetheless. There’s also a lovely walled garden and a bit of woodland on site, which are perfect for couple photos.

Bradstone Manor
Bradstone Manor is such a special venue! It’s family-run, and Romilly and her family make you feel like family when you’re there. It’s a farming site and is quite timeless.
Bradstone has some amazing areas such as the gatehouse (which the couple can stay in!), a large courtyard, a walled garden for ceremonies, and the beautiful barn.
It’s all DIY so you have full customisation of your day, and it is 9 miles from town.

Uphill Farm
This exquisite venue is also a on a working farm, 8 miles from Tavistock. Owner Charlotte will literally become your new best friend!
The stone barn is perfect for an atmospheric ceremony, or the walled garden would be perfect on a beautiful day. The food from their open-fire kitchen is amazing!
Other perks include – a swing in the trees, cows on site, a firepit, and beautiful flowers and plants all over.
I don’t believe there’s any accomodation onsite yet, but it’s not far to Tavistock, Yelverton or Plymouth for hotels etc.

The Bedford Hotel
The Bedford Hotel is a lovely historic venue in the centre of town. There are various ceremony areas onsite, both indoor and outdoor in their walled garden, which can cater towards a range of sizes.
(I haven’t yet documented a ceremony here yet, only receptions! But I do have a ceremony booked in for this year 😊)
Their weddings team are lovely and always happy to help. The food at The Bedford Hotel is great too! And there is plenty of accommodation onsite, seeing as it’s a hotel.

St Eustachius Church
The main church in Tavistock sees a lot of beautiful weddings. It’s a lovely large space and the vicars are welcoming. It’s great to come out of it into the greenery, in the centre of town, amongst the confetti.
There are plenty of local venues in which to have your reception; some are listed in this blog post! 😊
Other local churches I recommend include: St Peter’s Church – Peter Tavy, St Paul’s Church – Gulworthy, and St Michaels De Rupe Church – Brentor.

The Barn at Higher Beardon
This gorgeous working farm offers a super rustic wedding venue surrounded by beautiful moorland and farm animals. The beautiful fairy-lit barn is very natural and picturesque, and the outdoor areas are relaxed with gorgeous views.
Catering and a bar is offered by Dena and her wonderful team. I believe they have accommodation for the couple/family/bridal party on site too. It’s 6.8 miles from town, so close to local bnbs and hotels.

Hotel Endsleigh
This phenomenal hotel is an absolute gem. It’s a luxurious country house surrounded by 100 acres of Grade 1 listed gardens and woodland (!) and offers a warm welcome. It’s 8 miles away and down a long and winding driveway. The staff are always super attentive. Outdoor ceremonies on the Parterre are very special, with guests sat in a semi-circle around the fountain.
The catering team is so talented and on it, I cannot fault a thing. The views across the valley are almost as beautiful as the gardens and borders, and there are so many special parts to this hotel such as the Shell House (where I once did a super small ceremony), the rose walkway, and the beautifully decorated rooms inside the building itself.

If none of these venues are for you, let me know and I’ll help you look. There are many more gorgeous places around here but I can’t post a blog page with 20+ places, can I?! …Can I?
Anyway, pop me a message if you’re after something specific, I’ll try and point you in the right direction.
Happy hunting!
